OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep against Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at the Creighton Sports Complex. The Bluejays defeated the Pirates 9-4 in the opening game and 5-2 in the second contest.
Creighton improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in BIG EAST action, while the Pirates fell to 6-14 overall and 2-5 during league play.
Sophomore Kailey Wilson finished the day 5-for-6 with five RBIs, three runs scored and two home runs to lead the Bluejay offense. She moved her season batting average to .423 (22 hits) and pushed her team-leading home run and RBI totals to six and 18, respectively.Â
Creighton scored nine runs on 11 hits during game number one but battled from behind for the victory.Â
Seton Hall starting the scoring with a two-run home run over the center-field wall in the top of the second, but the Bluejays quickly responded with three runs in the home half of the inning.
Victoria Alvarez walked and Brittney Manthie tallied a bunt single to put runners at first and second base for lead-off hitter Ashley Cantu. Cantu sent the first pitch she saw into left field where the Seton Hall outfielder misplayed the ball, allowing Alvarez to score, while Manthie moved to second base and Cantu reached first . Both runners moved up 60 feet on an error by the catcher before Wilson delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to send both runners home and gave Creighton a 3-2 edge.
The Pirates tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third with a pair of singles and a walk before the Bluejays put up three more runs in the bottom half.
Mikaela Pechar worked a full count before being hit by the pitch and Madeline Vejvoda doubled to center field to put a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs in Creighton's half of the third. Seton Hall nearly escaped the inning with a back-to-back strikeouts, but Cantu delivered again with a towering three-run home run to push Creighton ahead 6-3.
Seton Hall added one run in the fifth with a solo homer to left-center.
Creighton produced three consecutive RBI base hits in the sixth to score three more runs. Nielsen reached on a dropped third strike wild pitch that would have been the third out of the inning before Wilson singled to put runners at first and second. Sam Alm doubled and drove in Nielsen, Kiara Mills recorded an infield single to drive in Wilson and Pechar laced a single into center field that allowed Alm to score.
The Pirates put a pair of runners on base in the top of the seventh, but Parker Boyd recorded her 10th strikeout to end the game and earn her team-leading sixth victory of the season.Â
Boyd set a season-high for strikeouts and allowed seven hits, while walking just one batter and hitting two others.Â
Â
Wilson ended the first game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Cantu drove in three and scored twice and Alm recorded a pair of hits.
All five of Creighton's runs in the second game came via the long ball.

Cayla Nielsen hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth. The Bluejay freshman went to the opposite field and pushed Creighton's advantage to 5-0.
Mikayla Santa Cruz struck out five and scattered five hits while not allowing an earned run. The Arizona native produced a pop up on the infield for the potential final out and shutout in the seventh but an error allowed a run to score and a second run scored on a single by the proceeding Pirate hitter.Â
