Men's Soccer Climbs in BIG EAST Standings with 3-0 Win Over DePaul

Omaha, Neb. -- With a 3-0 victory over DePaul on Saturday, October 29, the Creighton men's soccer team put themselves in position to earn a home match in the BIG EAST Tournament next week.
With the win the Bluejays moved to 6-3-6 overall and 3-2-4 in conference action, while DePaul fell to 4-6-6 on the season and 1-4-4 in BIG EAST play.
The Bluejays got on the board in the 24th minute as sophomore Giorgio Probo fed junior Duncan McGuire with a perfect pass in front of the defense. McGuire raced toward DePaul goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz, punching a shot into the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season.
Shortly after halftime Creighton pushed its advantage to 2-0 as Probo found sophomore Jackson Castro along the left side of the penalty box. Castro beat his defender for hist eighth goal of the season in the 49th minute (48:25).
Creighton's final tally of the match came in the 88th minute (87:38) as Castro lofted a ball to the head of senior Alejandro Maillet for his first goal of the year.
The Bluejays closed the contest with a 19-4 edge on shots and a 6-2 advantage in corners created.
Prior to the game Creighton honored 12 seniors who played their final regular season match at Morrison Stadium (Jake Ashford, Charles Auguste, Cameron Briggs, Dominic Briggs, Mitch Dobson, Diego Dutilh, Andrew Karcher, Paul Kruse, Alejandro Maillet, Luke Mitchell, Luke Waters and Callum Watson).
Creighton wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Providence. The match is set to begin at 6:00 pm (CT).
