Emma Ronsiek Named to the Wooden Award Watch List

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Creighton junior Emma Ronsiek was named to the 2022-23 John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 Watch List presented by Wendy's, NCAA DI Women's College Basketball's most prestigious honor. The watch list for the highly coveted award was announced on Tuesday, Nov. 15 on ESPN.com. A national committee of top college basketball experts determined the watch list of 50 candidates across all of women's college basketball.
Ronsiek helped Creighton make a historic run to the 2022 Elite Eight, including a NCAA Tournament victories over Colorado (84-74), at No. 8 Iowa (64-62) and over No. 10 Iowa State (76-68). Emma closed the 2021-22 season with a team-leading 445 points (13.9 ppg) and also led the Bluejays with 161 rebounds (5.0 rpg). The South Dakota native also dished out 81 assists, the third-highest total for Creighton.
Headlining the watch list is 2021-22 Wooden Award winner Aliyah Boston of No. 1 seed and eventual national champion South Carolina who led her team with 19 points in the Elite Eight win over Ronsiek and the Bluejays. Also on the 2022-23 watch list is 2021-22 Wooden Award All-American Caitlin Clark of No. 2 seed Iowa who Creighton upset in the second round of the NCAA tournament behind a double-double form Ronsiek.
The BIG EAST Conference is represented by five players on the 50-woman list as joining Ronsiek are Azzi Fudd from Connecticut, Aneesah Morrow from DePaul, Lauren Park-Lane from Seton Hall, and Maddy Siegrist from Villanova.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women, The Wooden Award All America Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Honorees have proven to their university that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden and the Wooden Award Steering Committee, including making progress towards graduation and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
Following the preseason watch list, nearly 1,000 voters across the nation will narrow the list of possible recipients in a midseason list, late season list , and the National Ballot of 15 nominees prior to the NCAA tournament in March. The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles in April.
