Women's Hoops Downed By #8 Connecticut, 72-47

Omaha, Neb. -- The 21st ranked Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 72-47 decision to #8 Connecticut on Wednesday, December 28.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in BIG EAST action, while Connecticut moved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Connecticut asserted themselves from the outset as the Huskies built a 10-0 lead in the opening frame and led 21-10 after ten minutes.
A defensive second quarter saw Connecticut push its edge to 26-11 (6:51), only for Creighton to answer with an interior bucket from junior Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and a three-pointer from senior Rachael Saunders to bring the game back to 26-16 (5:52).
The Huskies, however, closed the half with a 9-0 run to seize a 35-16 advantage at the half.
Connecticut blew the game open early in the third, extending the edge to 31 points at 51-20 (5:56).
Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) led Creighton with 12 points, while Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) closed the game with 11 points.
Connecticut got impressive performances from Aaliyah Edwards, who finished with 23 points and 20 rebounds. Dorka Juhasz posted 22 points and 18 rebounds.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Saturday, December 31 as the Bluejays battle DePaul on FOX at 3:00 p.m.
