Softball Drops Midweek Contest at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton softball team dropped their first midweek game of the year to Nebraska, 15-0, in five innings on Tuesday night at Bowlin Stadium during the first meeting between the Bluejays and Huskers in Lincoln since 2018.
The loss drops the Bluejays to 13-12 on the year, while the Huskers improve to 22-9 with the win.
Nebraska jumped on the Bluejays from the start, scoring six runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Cam Ybarra drove in the first run of the game with a single to right center, before Mya Felder scored Ybarra on an RBI double down the left field line. Abbie Squier then homered to left to make the score 4-0. Peyton Glatter laced an RBI double to left and later scored to give the Huskers a 6-0 lead after the first inning.
The Bluejays held Nebraska scoreless in the second before sophomore Caitlynn Neal led off the third inning with a solo home run to left to make it 7-0 after three compete inning.
Nebraska closed out the contest with eight more runs on four hits in the bottom of fourth inning to extend their lead out to 15-0.
Sophomore Madeline Vejvoda collected the Bluejays lone hit in the top of the fourth inning with a bloop single over the shortstops head but was unable to score.
Junior Kate Mullally was tagged with her second loss of the year after allowing five runs in 0.1 innings, while senior Olivia Ferrell picked up her 12th win of the season for the Huskers.
Creighton returns to action this weekend when the Bluejays travel to Queens, N.Y. for a BIG EAST conference matchup against St. John's. The Bluejays and Red Storm are scheduled to begin their three-game series on Friday afternoon at 12 p.m.
