Omaha, Neb. -- Playing its first midweek game of the 2022 season, Creighton Baseball suffered a 5-3 loss in a road game against Omaha at Tal Anderson Field.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 4-6 on the season, while Omaha climbed to 4-9.
Omaha jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with a leadoff walk to Harrison Denk and a one-out RBI double from Mike Boeve. The Mavericks went on to load the bases, but Creighton starter Cade Lommel limited the damage to just one run with two strikeouts and a ground ball to second to end the inning.
Creighton pulled even in the second with a walk to junior Jack Grace followed by an RBI double off the bat of Kyle Hess. Grace was off with the pitch as Bluejay head coach Ed Servais executed the perfect hit-and-run.
The Bluejays claimed a 2-1 lead in the second with a one-out walk to freshman Nolan Sailors, sophomore Alan Roden was hit by a pitch and freshman Brant Voth drove an RBi single up the middle.
The Mavericks countered with two singles in the third, putting runners at the corners and tied the game on a wild pitch.
The middle of the Omaha order touched up sophomore Tommy Lamb for a pair of runs in the fifth on a walk, an RBI double by cleanup hitter Noah Greise and an RBI single from Eddie Satisky.
The Mavericks tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on a Bluejay error to make it 5-2.
Creighton's final run came in the eighth as junior Jared Wegner launched a one-out triple to right and scored on an error off the bat of Grace.
Lamb suffered the loss (0-1), allowing two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Omaha's Joey Machado picked up the win (1-1) limiting Creighton to one unearned run on two hits in five innings of relief.
Maverick Jarrett Blunt picked up Omaha's first save of the season with a flawless ninth.
Creighton returns to action this weekend, but the weather in Omaha has the Bluejays schedule in flux. More details will be available in the coming days.
