Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball's 14-game home winning streak came to an end on Monday, April 18 as the Bluejays dropped a 6-0 decision to Arizona.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 21-9 on the season, while the Wildcats climbed to 25-12 overall.
Creighton had opportunities early in the game to take the lead, leaving two runners on base in the second, the third and the sixth innings.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Tony Bullard that just sailed over the glove of Creighton's Jared Wegner as he jumped in attempt to keep the game scoreless.
The Bluejays tried to pull even in the bottom of the seventh, getting a one-out single by Nolan Clifford and an intentional walk to sophomore Alan Roden with two down in the frame. Arizona reliever Jonathan Guardado wiggled out of trouble as he got junior Jared Wegner to ground out to short.
The Wildcats added three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, capitalizing on a Bluejay error that would have closed the eighth without allowing any runs.
Arizona reliever Anthony Susac picked up the win (2-1), tossing three innings of scoreless relief, while Creighton reliever Daniel Hammond took the loss (0-1) allowing the home run in the seventh.
Creighton and Arizona continue their two-game set on Tuesday, April 19 at 8:00 pm in Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The game will be televised on CBSSN.
