Women’s Tennis Dominates During 7-0 Sweep of Midland

The Bluejays did not drop a set during the 7-0 sweep.
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team did not drop a set during a 7-0 sweep of Midland on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
Creighton improved to 10-6 on the year with the victory, while Midland fell to 14-4 overall.
Junior Kate Krueger and freshman Valerie Negin started the afternoon with a 6-0 win at the top doubles slot before senior's Gabby O'Connor and Meredith Benson won 6-2 at the No. 3 slot to clinch the first point of the day. The duo of Sarah Wilcox and Malvika Shukla also claimed a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays dominated during singles play, earning straight-set victory at all six positions.
Negin dropped the first game of her singles match, but rallied to defeat Ari Lumanog in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-0 to earn the Bluejays second point of the afternoon.
Sarah Wilcox continued the winning ways with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the No. 3 singles slot before Krueger clinched the match for the Bluejays with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top singles position.
Shukla and Benson claimed similar victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, downing their opponents 6-2, 6-0 in straight-sets. Freshman Allison Wilcox finished out the sweep with a 6-0 6-2 victory at the No. 6 singles position.
Friday's match marked the fourth sweep of the season, the most since the Bluejays claimed six sweeps during the 2020 season.
"Our girls took care of business today and handled all the tricky situations that camp up," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We will take a few days to rest up before our final push during thee final week before conference."
Creighton will return to the courts on Wednesday, April 13 when they host Kansas City at the Koch Family Tennis Center. First serve between the Bluejays and Roos is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
