
Softball Run-Rules Northern Colorado, Falls Late To Akron During Day Two of Texan Invitational

Stephenville, Texas –Senior Kailey Wilson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run in the Bluejays' 11-2 run-rule victory over Northern Colorado before fall, 4-3, to Akron during day two of the Texan Invitational on Saturday.
Creighton moved to 3-5 on the year with the split.
In game one, Creighton scored early and often with 11 runs in the first four innings. The Bluejays patiently produced five runs on five walks and a pair of hits in the first inning before scoring solo runs in the second and third, followed by four more runs in the fourth to earn a 11-2 rule-rule victory over the Bears.
Sophomore Sydra. Seville got the Bluejays started with a walk to lead off the game. Seville then stole second before junior Madeline Vejvoda drew a walk of her own. Wilson followed with her fifth double of the season, driving in Seville from second for the Bluejays first run of the game. A walk by junior Emma Rosonke loaded the bases, before a walk by junior Cayla Nielsen brought home the Jays second run of the inning. Following a pitching change, the Bluejays took a 3-0 lead on a third straight walk from freshman Erika Perez. With the bases still loaded, freshman Ensley Frame lined a two-run single down the left field line, extending the Bluejays lead out to 5-0.
Creighton tacked on an additional run in the bottom half of the second as Wilson launched her second home run of the season over the right center field wall to push the advantage out to 6-0.
Northern Colorado responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run blast from Paola Villegas, cutting the Bluejays lead down to 6-2.
The Bluejays answered with a solo run in the bottom of the inning as Nielsen singled up the middle before advancing to second on a wild pitch. A few pitches later, Frame delivered yet another RBI single down the left field line making the score 7-2.
In the fourth inning, the Bluejays erupted four runs on a pair of doubles and a single securing the run-rule victory. Freshman Lily West led off the frame with a single to right before Wilson rocketed her second double of the afternoon into the left center field gap to extend Creighton's lead to 8-2. Junior Alyssa Gappa then delivered an RBI double of her own down the right field line to make the score 9-2. Nielsen drew her second walk of the game before Perez closed out the scoring with a two-run single to left as Creighton claimed the 11-2 win.
Six different Bluejays recorded at least one hit, while Wilson led the team with three runs on three hits and three runs batted in. Perez and Frame also drove in three runs apiece for the Bluejays. In the circle, sophomore Alexis Wiggins picked up her second win of the season, striking out three in 4.0 innings of work.
A pitchers dual early on in game two, saw the Bluejays and Zips keep each other at bay through the first two and a half innings before the Jays' placed the first dent on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom half of the third inning.
Following a pair of outs, Seville lined a single back up the middle to get things started for Creighton. West then brought Seville around to score on an RBI single to center, giving Creighton a 1-0 lead.
Akron threatened to score in the top half of the fourth with a pair of singles and a walk to lead off the inning, before freshman Natalia Puchino closed the door with three straight outs, including a strikeout to keep the Zips scoreless through four innings.
Creighton added to its lead in the bottom half of the fourth as Nielsen hit a double into right center to lead off the inning.Gappafollowed with a two-run blast, her first of the season, over the right center field wall to extend the lead out to 3-0.
The Zips cut the Bluejays lead down to 3-1 in the fifth inning as Brooke Sivek beat out an infield bunt to open the frame. Molly McChesney would then reach on a fielder's choice and come around to score on an RBI single from Alexis Campbell for Akron's first run of the game.
Akron would go to take the lead in the top half of the seventh innings with three runs on three straight doubles.McChesneygot things started with a walk before Campbell lined an RBI double into the left center field gap. Campbell would come around to score on the play as the Bluejays overthrew third as the sophomore tried to take an extra base. Jaiden Bryant would follow with a double of her own, before scoring on a double from Laurel Devoe to give the Zips a 4-3 lead.
Down to their final three out, the Bluejays used a pair of walks by West and Wilson to put runners on first and second. Following a pitching change, the Zips got Nielsen to fly out to center to secure the 4-3 win.
The Bluejays recorded seven hits in the game, led by two from Nielsen, while Gappa drove in two runs with a home run.Puchinowent 5.0 strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits. Junior Payton Akers (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work.
