Bluejay Baseball Claims Series Finale at Coastal Carolina, 10-5

The win lifted the Bluejays to 3-3 on the season, while the Chanticleers moved to 4-3.
Creighton scratched the scoreboard first with a run in the second as junior Nolan Clifford walked, moved around the diamond on a walk to grad transfer Ben Gbur, then when sophomore Hogan Helligso was hit by a pitch. Finally freshman Ben North lifted a sac fly to to center.
Coastal Carolina answered with a pair of runs in the third on three hits.
Trailing 3-1 entering the sixth, the Bluejays drew closer by taking advantage of an error, a hit batter and a passe ball to make it 3-2.
Once more the Chanticleers responded with a pair of runs in their half of the inning, scoring twice on reliever Dominic Cancellier. Bergstrom shut the door with one pitch to close out the sixth and shift the momentum Creighton's way.
The top of the seventh began with a double down the right field line by sophomore Nolan Sailors and a single to center from grad transfer Tyler Lozano to put runners at the corners. A walk to senior Jack Grace loaded the bases for Hayes. The California native made Coastal Carolina pay with a two-run single through the left side, Clifford followed with an RBI double to right to knot the game at 5-5. With two out in the frame Creighton seized its first lead with an RBI single past a diving Chanticleer third baseman Blake Barthol by North.
The Bluejays tacked on a single run in the eighth on an RBI double from Hayes and three more in the ninth to secure the win.Â
Bergstrom limited Coastal Carolina to one hit in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win (1-0), while Colin Yablonski was tagged with the loss (0-1). Yablonski allowed one run on two hits in one-third of an inning.
Creighton returns to the diamond next weekend when the Bluejays begin a three-game series at Cal State Northridge on Friday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. (CT).
