Led by a combined 50 points from the trio of Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) and Carly Bachelor (Topeka, Kan.), the Creighton women's basketball team defeated Butler 75-56 on Saturday, January 14.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 12-5 on the season and 6-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Bulldogs fell to 7-11 and 2-7 in conference action.
Each team came out sluggish in the opening frame as Creighton went 6-for-19 (31.6%) and Butler shot 4-for-14 (28.6%) in the first quarter. Juniors Ronsiek and Jensen each delivered fie points in the frame to give Creighton a 14-9 edge.
Butler clawed within two a pair of times early in the second, but junior Mallory Brake (Hastings, Minn.) provided a lift with five points in the frame, including her first trey of the season to put Creighton up 22-17 (7:40). Leading 25-22 with 4:38 remaining in the half, Creighton used a 9-0 run led by four from Bachelor to stretch the advantage to 34-22 (1:13). Just before halftime Butler ended the Bluejay surge with a bucket from Rachel McLimore to send the teams to the locker room with Creighton leading 34-24.
The third quarter saw Bachelor, Jensen and Ronsiek combine for 21 points, eight from Bachelor, as the Bluejays extended their lead to as much as 22 at 57-35 (1:44) and took a 59-38 edge into the final frame.
Treys from juniors Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) and Jayme Horan (Omaha, Neb.) gave Creighton a 67-43 edge with 6:13, allowing the team to coast to the 75-56 win.
Ronsiek led all scorers with 20 points, while Bachelor and Jensen each finished with 15 points. Butler got a team-high 16 points from Sydney Jaynes in the loss.
Scouting Butler (11-17, 6-13 BIG EAST)
Butler enters the game in Omaha on a four-game winning streak, including three games at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The four-game win streak came on the heels of a seven-game losing streak.
Rachel McLimore leads the Bulldogs with 11.5 ppg, while Sydney James is second on the squad with 9.8 ppg and 4.1 rpg.
Butler struggles with ball security, committing 449 turnovers this season.
Scouting Creighton (20-7, 14-5 BIG EAST)
Creighton set a new record for road wins in a season under head coach Jim Flanery with the 12th road win of the 2022-23 season at Marquette, 55-44 on Feb. 22.
The Bluejays have won three straight at home and eight of their last nine.
Creighton's offense is guided by the trio of Morgan Maly (15.7 ppg), Lauren Jensen (15.7 ppg) and Emma Ronsiek (12.6 ppg).
While the Bluejays' offense averages over 70 ppg (71.3), it has been Creighton's defense that has made the biggest jump throughout the season. The Bluejays have allowed 78 points (39.0 per game) in their last two outings. In addition the last six Bluejay opponents have been limited to 65 points or less.

The last time the Bluejays saw two players top double figures on the glass in the same game was on
March 20, 2022 in the Bluejays' 64-62 win over #8 Iowa in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
