Scouting St. John's (17-4, 8-4 BIG EAST)
The Red Storm offense is led by guard Jayla Everett, who is averaging 16.8 points per game. The St. Louis, Missouri native put 20 past the Bluejays in their first matchup on Dec. 4 when St. John's handed Creighton its first loss of the season.
Guard Unique Drake is averaging 9.2 points per game off the Johnnies bench in 2022-23. Last time out against Creighton, she and Kadaja Bailey (13.7 ppg) both scored 13 points.
On the year the Red Storm defense is holding
opponents to just 58.5 points per game while scoring 67.8 per game themselves. The Bluejays covered the averages on both ends of the floor in the prior meeting in Queens but couldn't pull out the victory (62-66).
On Tuesday, Seton Hall completed the season series sweep of the St. John's, taking them down 68-58 in Queens. The loss last time out was the Johnnies' fourth of conference play and the season, bumping them down in the BIG EAST standings to fourth, right behind Creighton.
Â
Scouting Creighton (15-6, 9-4 BIG EAST)
After outlasting DePaul Wednesday, Creighton enters the contest riding a three-game win streak, their third win streak of three plus on the season.
After scoring just six points against St. John's on Dec. 4, a conference play low on the season for Emma Ronsiek, the junior forward has upped her game, scoring double-digit points in 12 of the 13 games since. Meanwhile, freshman guard Kennedy Townsend scored a career-high nine points off the bench in the Bluejays' first meeting with the Red Storm.
The Creighton offense is led by the duo of Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly, who are both averaging just over 16 points per game. Last time out against DePaul Maly led the Bluejays with 21 while Jensen followed closely behind with 19.
Keys To the Game on Saturday, February 4
Rachael Saunders: Saunders missed the first battle due to injury and will be tasked with defending Everett
Combating Peoples:Â Rayven Peoples' size in the middle impacted the game on both ends with 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Creighton must do a better job against her on the glass and force her out of the paint as a defender.
Limit Free Throws: St. John's was 12-of-14 at the line in the first meeting and shoots over 75% on the season.
