Bluejay Baseball Ralies for 8-6 Win Over BYU

The win lifted Creighton to 5-5 on the season, while BYU fell to 4-9.
The game turned the Bluejays' way in the top of the fifth with the bags full of Cougars and no one out. Junior reliever Tommy Lamb was brought in from the bullpen, inducing a short fly ball to left and an inning-ending double play to keep the game at 6-2.
The Creighton offense responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, getting a one-out single through the right side by sophomore Nolan Sailors, an RBI single from junior Nolan Clifford and an RBI double by grad transfer Tyler Lozano.Â
The sixth inning saw the Bluejays make it 6-5 on a one-out double from senior Sterling Hayes and a two-out RBI single from sophomore Hogan Helligso.
Creighton pulled even with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh. Clifford reached on an error to open the inning, then freshman Ben North was hit by a pitch with one down. Hayes and pinch-hitter Tate Gillen delivered two-out RBI singles to push Creighton ahead 7-6.
The Bluejays added an insurance run in the eighth on a bunt single from Sailors, a sacrifice, a wild pitch and a sac fly.
Creighton closer Tommy Steier picked up the win (2-0) with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, while senior Paul Bergstrom got the final two outs of the contest for his first save of the season.
BYU reliever Sam Beck took the loss (1-1), allowing an unearned run in the seventh.
Sailors guided the offense with three hits (3-for-5) and three runs scored. Senior Jack Grace smashed his fifth home run of the season in the fourth, finishing 1-for-4.
The Bluejays and Cougars conclude their shortened series on Saturday, March 11 at 12:00 p.m. The series was relocated to Lawrence, Kansas due to cold and inclement weather in Omaha.
