Baseball Set to Open Home Schedule Against Kansas State on Wednesday

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball is set to officially open its 2023 home schedule on Wednesday, March 15 as the Bluejays face off with Kansas State at 600 p.m. in Charles Schwab Field Omaha.

Series History with Kansas State (Bluejays Trail 43-55-1)
Wednesday will be the 100th meeting between Kansas State and Creighton. While the Wildcats hold a 12-game edge, the Bluejays have won five of the last seven meetings. Last season Kansas State posted a 7-5 victory in its lone meeting on April 5 in Manhattan, Kansas.

Forced to shorten and relocate their three-game home series with BYU, the Bluejays swept a pair of games with the Cougars in Lawrence last weekend.
After falling behind 6-2 in the opening game with BYU, Creighton scored six straight runs to claim Friday's contest. The offense continued to roll on Saturday with 15 runs in the first five innings.
Creighton's home opening game has been pushed to Wednesday's meeting with Kansas State.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .273, led by Nolan Clifford at .400 and Nolan Sailors at .378.
On the bump the Bluejays bring a 6.26 ERA into the game on Wednesday. Creighton starter Cade Lommel will start his second game of the season against the Wildcats.

Kansas State comes back to Omaha for a second time during the 2023 season on Wednesday. The Wildcats last trip brought Kansas State to face Omaha on Feb. 28. Ironically it was the Wildcats last loss.
Kansas State opened the season with a four-game road sweep of Stephen F. Austin. The Wildcats dropped the next five games, capped by a 7-6 setback to the Mavericks.
Since that contest Kansas State has rolled off seven consecutive wins, including a 25-3 win over Stonehill (March 4) and 20-5 over Youngstown State (March 10).
During the seven-game win streak the Wildcats are averaging over 13 runs per game. At the plate Kansas State is hitting .280 as a squad, including .333 by Nick Goodwin. On the bump the Wildcats have a 4.60 ERA.

Bluejays Deliver Historic Scoring Streak Against BYU
In Creighton's abbreviated two-game series with BYU (March 10-11), the Bluejays provided a first in the career of head coach Ed Servais. Beginning in the third inning on Friday through the fifth inning on Saturday, Creighton scored in 11 consecutive frames. The longest previous streak in Servais' 20 year career was eight innings, all in one game, during Creighton's 16-3 win over North Dakota on March 17, 2012.
Hayes Claims BIG EAST Honor Roll
Senior Sterling Hayes went 4-8 at the plate, scoring three runs and tallying five RBI to help Creighton sweep BYU (March 10-11). Hayes weekend was highlighted by a four RBI game on Saturday. Hayes slapped three doubles, bringing his slugging percentage on the weekend to .875 as he now leads the conference and is eighth in the nation in doubles per game (0.60).

Bluejays in Home Openers
Thursday will mark the 20th home opener for the Bluejays under head coach Ed Servais. In his 19 games at the helm, Creighton is 15-4 in the first game at home, with the last loss coming to Nebraska in 2019 (6-3 on March 26). In 2017-19 and again last season the opener was postponed or cancelled due to weather.
