Bluejay Baseball Downed at Kansas, 3-1

Lawrence, Kan. -- The Creighton Baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Kansas on Wednesday, March 29.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 9-9 on the season, while Kansas climbed to 9-14 overall.
Creighton scored first in the top of the second as grad transfer Tyler Lozano and senior Jack Grace singled, then senior Sterling Hayes drew a walk to load the bases. After freshman Ben North's liner to third was snagged, a wild pitch put Creighton on the board. Moments later junior Kyle Hess was hit by a pitch to fill the bags once more. Unfortunately a foul out and a fly out kept the game at 1-0.
Kansas answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame on a ball into right that glanced off the glove of Grace for a double, a steal of third and an RBI grounder.
The Jayhawks seized the lead one inning later, taking advantatge of a walk, a single, a wild pitch and an RBI ground out. The final run of the contest came in the fifth on a pair of singles and a hit batter.
Creighton junior Cade Lommel took the loss (0-4), allowing one run on one hit and one walk in one inning. Jayhawk reliever Thaniel Thumper earned the win (1-2) with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Thumper limited Creighton to two hits and one walk. Kansas closer Ethan Bradford worked a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Friday, March 31 as the Bluejays begin a three-game series with St. Thomas at 6:00 p.m.
