Bluejay Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from St. Thomas

Creighton takes opener 15-4, claims sweep with 8-5 win
Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team swept a doubleheader from St. Thomas on Saturday, April 1 with a 15-4 win in the opener and an 8-5 win in the nightcap.
Following Saturday's action the Bluejays moved to 11-9, while St. Thomas fell to 2-15 on the season.

Game 1 Recap: Creighton 15, St. Thomas 4 (7)
Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the third, the Bluejays took control with an eight run frame. Sophomore Hogan Helligso got the Bluejays on the board with a two-run double. Later in the inning a sacrifice bunt from senior Andrew Meggs led to an errant throw, giving Creighton a 4-3 edge. Another St. Thomas error brought Meggs around to score, then senior Jack Grace and Ben North blasted back-to-back home runs to make it 8-3.
The Bluejays tacked on a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and pushed four across in the sixth to secure a run rule victory.
Helligso led Creighton with a 2-for-3 afternoon, delivering three RBI and three runs scored. Grace and Nolan Clifford also finished with two RBI.
Creighton starter Ryan Windham earned the win (2-1), allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings.
Game 2 Recap: Creighton 8, St. Thomas 5
Creighton held a 2-1 lead in a pitcher's dual as the second game moved into the seventh inning.
The Bluejays took control with three runs in the seventh on RBI knocks from Clifford, grad transferTyler Lozano and a sacrifice fly from junior Kyle Hess.
The Tommies responded with four runs in the eighth inning to knot the game at 5-5, but Creighton refused to let the sweep slip away. The bottom half of the inning saw the Bluejays reclaim the lead via an RBI single from Lozano and a two-run pinch-hit double by junior Colby Canales.
Creighton closer Tommy Steier grabbed the win (4-0) with a scoreless ninth, Steier allowed one run over two innings of work.
Lozano went 5-for-5 with three RBI, while Clifford finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Bluejays and Tommies will close out the three-game series set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
