Bluejay Women's Hoops Blows Past Improbable, Delivers Unthinkable 75-74 Overtime Win

Down 62-57 with 16 seconds in Regulation, Bluejays Down Seton Hall
Uncasville, Conn. -- Trailing 62-57 with 16 seconds remaining in regulation, Creighton Women's Basketball delivered an unthinkable comeback as junior Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) and Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) canned three-pointers to force overtime. Down 74-73 in the extra session the duo each had a hand as the Bluejays scored at the buzzer to defeat Seton Hall 75-74 in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 4.
The win moved the Bluejays to 22-7 on the season, while Seton Hall moved to 18-14.
Creighton continues play in the BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday, March 5, advancing to a semifinal matchup with second-seeded Villanova at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on FS1.
Down 62-57 with 16.2 seconds remaining in regulation, Creighton head coach Jim Flanery used a timeout to advance the ball into the Bluejays' offensive end. With Ronsiek inbounding, the South Dakota native threw a cross-court bullet to Maly who quickly nailed the trey to make it 62-60. Quickly fouling, the Bluejays sent Seton Hall's Lauren Park-Lane to the line. The Pirates' leader went 1-for-2, giving Creighton a window. Flanery used his final timeout to advance the ball once more, this time with 12 seconds remaining.
After Seton Hall committed a foul to force the Bluejays to inbound underneath the bucket. This time junior Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) sent the ball to senior Rachael Saunders (Iowa City, Iowa). Turning down a three-pointer, Saunders drove to the elbow, then dished to Ronsiek for an open look with 8.2 remaining.
The Bluejay defense denied Seton Hall on its final attempt in regulation, sending the game to an extra session.
Down 68-66 with 3:22 left, Ronsiek drove the lane to tie the game. Moments later Jensen connected for a deep three-ball to give Creighton its first lead since the 6:19 mark of the third quarter (38-37).
Seton Hall responded with the next four points to surge ahead 72-71, but Jensen hit a driving circus shot as she fell to the floor to put Creighton back up 73-72 with 17.2 remaining.
The Pirates used their final timeout to advance the ball, scoring on a layup from Mya Bemby with 11 seconds on the clock.
Creighton countered with its final timeout, putting the ball on its offensive end. The play called for Ronsiek to drive the lane, but her shot was off the mark with 2.4 left. Maly swooped in for the offensive rebound and put back as time expired to give the Bluejays the win!
Creighton got a team-high 22 points from Ronsiek, while Jensen had 16 points. Maly finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Molly Mogensen also 13 points.
Park-Lane led all scorers with 36 points in the loss, while Azana Baines added in 11.
