season. Sophomore outfielder Tucker Jackson leads the team with 16 stolen bases in 18 attempts.
Scouting the Bluejays: 15-14, 3-3 BIG EAST
The Bluejays come into the weekend against St. John's looking to find their stride. Creighton lost the final two games of the weekend set at Georgetown.
Creighton is hitting .246 as a team, led by Nolan Sailors (.336), Sterling Hayes (.289), Nolan Clifford (.283) and Jack Grace (.282). On the mound the Bluejays bring a team ERA of 5.57, but starter Justin Kleinsorge has a 5.16 mark.
Nolan Clifford Named to Brooks Wallace Watch List
Creighton shortstop Nolan Clifford's dynamic 2023 season earned National Recognition as the Illinois native was named to the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. A group of 101 of the most talented shortstops in Division I college baseball headline the initial 2023 Brooks Wallace Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced Tuesday, April 18
Clifford is third for the Bluejays with a .283 average this season, he has 26 hits including three home runs and 20 RBI in 27 games. In the field Nolan has a .983 fielding percentage with three errors, but two of those came at first base.
Â
"We are seeing some defensive-minded shortstops this year, with many of the kids without an error or very few errors as we sift through the candidates for this year's Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award," said Larry Wallace, co-chair of the award. "Of course, big offensive numbers are again a part of this class as is evident by the power numbers we are seeing."
Â
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27. The award honors outstanding defensive play as much as it does production at the plate.
