Eleanor Hudepohl leads Bluejays with third-place finish
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Eleanor Hudepohl tied Creighton's 54-hole record with a 3-under 213 to help lead a young Creighton women's golf team to a tie for eighth place at the season-opening MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday.
Hudepohl shot rounds of 71, 69 and 73 for a 213 aggregate. Her first two rounds on Monday made her the first Bluejay woman ever to shoot multiple under par rounds in the same day, and her second round score made her just the third female in team history to finish a round in the 60s. Hudepohl's 213 total matched Katherine Lemke school-record for a 54-hole event, which Lemke accomplished en route to winning the 2022 BIG EAST Championship.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, product has finished 13th or better in each of her last nine tournaments dating to last season, and owns nine top-five finishes in 21 career events at CU.
Annika Yturralde tied for 34th place after rounds of 73, 74 and 80 to open her sophomore season. Her 73 tied the best round of her Creighton career.
Creighton's line-up featured four other freshmen who made their collegiate debut. The quartet was headed by Katharine Marshall, who tied for 29th place with rounds of 71, 78 and 75. Playing on her birthday on Monday, Marshall birdied the first two holes she played at the collegiate level en route to her first-round 71. That made her the first Bluejay to ever open her career with a round under par.
Annie Dawson fired an opening loop of 82 before improving with circuits of 75 and 74 to tie for 51st place. Abby Aeschleman tied for 79th place after rounds of 82, 83 and 77.
Competing as an individual and not factoring into CU's team score was a fourth freshman, Karsen Morrison. The North Platte native tied for 67th place after rounds of 78, 83 and 77.
Oral Roberts shot an 868 total to top the 17-team field by eight shots over Austin Peay. Creighton's rounds of 297, 296 and 299 marked just the second time in program history the team had posted three sub-300 rounds in the same event, and the 892 aggregate was CU's fourth-best 54-hole showing in history.
Cal Baptist's Sofia Chabon took home medalist honors after an 8-under 208 total to defeat Oklahoma City's MaKayla Tyrrell (66-71-73) by two shots and Hudepohl by five strokes. The 99-player field competed on the Rivercut Golf Course, which measured 6,244 yards on its Par 72 layout.
The Bluejays return to the course in two weeks for the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
