Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Play at Drake Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sophomore Ana Paula Martinez picked up the Bluejays' lone win as the Creighton women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Drake Invite on Sunday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

"We were a little flat at times today with the exception of Ana who played very strong tennis," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Malvika let a couple games slip away against a strong opponent and it was unfortunate that we just didn't have our "A" game on the final day. We will keep getting better and healthier as the fall goes on."

Martinez captured a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win over Clara Whitaker in the Singles White Consolation Finals to finish the opening week with four victories.

Malvika Shukla played in the Blue Singles Championship Match on Sunday but suffered a 6-3, 6-4 straight sets loss to Ines Stephani to close the weekend with a 4-2 record.

Allison Wilcox and Annika Elvestrom also played a consolation match on Sunday but fell in their matches.

The Bluejays return to the courts on Thursday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Kansas for the ITA Regional.
