Gerhard Posch Collect First Career Win as Men’s Tennis Opens Season With 5-2 Victory Over North Dakota.

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton Men's Tennis head coach Gerhard Posch earned his first career victory as the Bluejays opened the season with a 5-2 win over North Dakota on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Courts.
The win propelled the Bluejays to 1-0 for the first time since 2015, while the Fighting Hawks fell to 0-1 on the young season.
Creighton soared out to a 1-0 lead in the match after sweeping all three doubles matches.
Sophomore Yuma Daijima and junior Alejandro Gandini cruised to a 6-1 win on the No. 3 doubles court, before senior Matthew Lanahan and sophomore Kirtan Patel captured a 6-2 victory on court No. 1 to earn the first point of the season. Senior Shin Inoue and sophomore Zachary Kuo also earned a slim 7-5 victory on the No. 2 doubles court.
The Bluejays continued their success into single play as Kuo quickly captured a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles position. Patel followed suit with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets victory on the No. 2 court to give Creighton a 3-0 lead in the match.
North Dakota would earn their first win of the day, capturing a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 4 singles court, moments before Daijima clinched the overall match with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 triumph at the No. 6 singles position.
Junior Ethan Neil would also capture a victory on the No. 5 singles court, taking down Federico Fiorda, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 in three sets.
Creighton returns to the court on Saturday afternoon, when they travel down I-80 to battle Nebraska. First serve between the Bluejays and Huskers is scheduled for 4 p.m.
