Scouting Creighton (4-4-3)
Beginning in late September and continuing into early October, the Bluejays have faced a rough offensive patch, beginning with a 1-0 loss to Georgetown in their conference opener at Morrison Stadium.
Since finding themselves shutout against the Hoyas on Sept. 20, Creighton has gone 0-2-1.
In their latest contest with DePaul, the Bluejay offense created an abundance of scoring opportunities. Creighton outshot DePaul 23-4, yet were shutout 2-0.
Finding scoring opportunities remains one of Creighton's strongest assets throughout the season and in their last four matches. Since the season began, Creighton tallied 164 shots while the Bluejays' opponents have posted just 109. Just in the last four matchups, the Bluejays racked up 58 total shots as compared to a total of 43 taken by their opponents.
Now, traveling just across town to take on the awaiting Mavericks, the Bluejays look to find the back of the net for the first time since the two goals scored against No. 18 Providence.
Creighton will continue to rely heavily on the sharpshooting abilities of Jackson Castro, who leads the team with three goals and three assists, while Blake Gillingham stands to take the net for the Bluejays once again.
Creighton has fared well against their in-state rival in the past, posting a 4-1-2 record since 2016. The two Nebraska teams battled to an even 2-2 draw the last time they met in October of 2023.
Scouting Omaha (6-2-3)
The Omaha Mavericks began their season with a five-game win streak, taking four of those victories at home, while picking up the other on the road. It wasn't until the Mavericks found themselves visitors in Phoenix, Arizona against Grand Canyon that their five week tirade was broken in a 2-0 shutout.
Since GCU snapped their win streak, the Mavericks have tallied mixed results in their last five games. Omaha came away with two more wins at home and three draws, paired with another road loss to Oral Roberts.
Despite the mixed results over the last six matches, the Mavericks continue to fare well against their opponents while boasting home pitch advantage, going 4-0-3 this season at Caniglia Field.
The majority of Omaha's offensive prowess this season comes at the foot of Theo Klein, who leads the Mavericks with four goals combined with three assists. Mathis Pilon St-Louis,
with his three goals n the season, is another of the eight Mavericks who have contributed to Omaha's offensive success this season.
Two Mavericks have seen playing time between the posts. For one game, the Mavericks experimented with goalkeeper Cole Steward, who picked up Omaha's fifth win in their five game win streak.
Other than Steward's one 90 minute performance against Loyola Chicago, the Mavericks have opted to have Nathanael Sallah manning the goal in Omaha's. The senior conceded an average of 1.10 goals per game this season, but picked up 36 saves in 10 matches.
Mavericks Hold Edge with Common Opponents
Creighton and Omaha have four shared common opponents this season. The Bluejays are 2-0-2 in those contest, while Omaha went 3-1-0. Creighton's victories came against San Francisco (4-2) and Grand Canyon (1-0), while Omaha defeated Florida Atlantic, San Francisco and Loyola Chicago, yet fell to Grand Canyon.
