Women’s Tennis Rallies For 4-3 Victory Over North Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team battled back from an early deficit to defeat North Dakota, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
Creighton improved to 4-2 on the season with their fourth win in a row, while the Fighting Hawks fell to 2-7 overall.
The Bluejays lost the doubles point, but responded with four single victories, including a three-set win from Siri Kongara to clinch the overall dual.
After falling behind 1-0 following double losses at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, sophomore Ana Paula Martinez tied the match with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 straight-set victory over UND'S Jule Schulte at the No. 3 singles position.
North Dakota would then reclaim the lead with a straight-sets victory on the No. 2 court. The Fighting Hawks lead wouldn't last long as Annika Elvestrom claimed a 6-4, 6-2 straight-sets win at the No. 5 singles position.
Senior Malvika Shukla would then give Creighton its first lead of the match, securing a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory over UND's Sapir Sela at the top singles position.
North Dakota, however, did level the match at 3-3, following a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 win by Aziza Aubin at the No. 6 single position.
With the match on the line, Kongara pulled through and delivered a three-set victory to clinch the overall dual for the Bluejays. Kongara battled to a 7-6 (7-4) in set one but fell 6-3 in set two to force a winner-take-all third set. In the decisive third frame, Kongara soared out to a 5-2 lead before a pair of game-winner from Nore Heinitz into Kongara's advantage before closing out the set with a 6-4 victory.
Creighton returns to the courts on Tuesday night when they travel down I-80 to battle Nebraska at 6 p.m.
