LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 7-0 loss to Nebraska at the Dillon Tennis Center on Tuesday night.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 4-3 on the season, while the Cornhuskers improved to 6-1 with the victory.
Nebraska claimed the hard-fought doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles position. Nebraska claimed a 6-2 victory on the No. 3 doubles court to take an early advantage, but a 6-3 victory on the top doubles court by Malvika Shukla and Valerie Negin leveled things up. Nebraska then proceeded to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on the No. 2 doubles court.
In singles play, the Cornhuskers claimed victories at all six singles positions to clinch the overall dual, 7-0. Shukla and Negin recorded the best outing for the Bluejays, forcing a third set of action at the top two singles positions.
After dropping her first set 6-1, Shukla responded with a 7-5 win in set two to force a decisive third frame. Nebraska's Raphaelle Lacasse, however, claimed the victory with a third set win.
Negin also dropped her first set 6-2 but answered with a 6-3 victory in set two, before falling 10-3 in the third set to Anfisa Danilchenko.
The Bluejays are back in action this Friday when they take on crosstown rival Omaha at 7 p.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
