Men’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Sweep of Doane

OMAHA, Neb. – Battling former Bluejay head coach Ed Hubbs , the Creighton men's tennis team soared to a 7-0 sweep of Doane on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
With the win, Creighton improved to 7-3 on the year, while Doane fell to 4-3 overall.
Senior Matthew Lanahan and junior Alejandro Gandini paired up for a 6-1 victory on the top doubles court, while sophomores Kirtan Patel and Yuma Daijima cruised to a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles position to earn the first point of the match. Sophomore Zachary Kuo and senior Zack Maline also teamed up to claim a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles position.
Creighton controlled singles action as all six single slots posted straight-set wins.
Patel continued his winning ways with a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top spot, pushing the Bluejays out to a 2-0 lead. Junior Transfer Blake Eason followed with an identical 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 singles position, recording his first win of the season.
Freshman Cowen Lau then earned his first win of the season, clinching the dual with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles position.
With the match in hand, senior Shin Inoue posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 singles spot, while Lanahan captured a 6-3, 6-0 triumph on the No. 2 court. Daijima would then close out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on the No. 4 singles court.
Creighton returns to the court tomorrow night for a match against crosstown rival Omaha. First serve between the Bluejays and Mavericks is set for 7 p.m. at the Miracle Hills Tennis Center.
