OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's tennis sophomore Yuma Daijima earned BIG EAST Male Singles Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday afternoon.Â
Â
This marks the second straight week Daijima has earned a BIG EAST weekly honor, as he teamed up with Alejandro Gandini for BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week last week.Â
Â
The sophomore posted a 2-0 record at the No. 6 singles slot last week, helping the Bluejays split a pair of matches against previously unbeaten Youngstown State (W, 5-2) and former Missouri Valley Conference rival, Drake (L, 4-3).Â
Â
The Tokyo, Japan native opened the 2-0 week with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory over YSU's Asier Ibanez on Friday afternoon. Daijima then followed Friday's performance with an impressive 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 triumph over Drake's Benjamin Johnson on Saturday.Â
Â
Daijima has now won five straight singles matches and improved his overall record to 6-1 with the pair of victories. He has also won four straight doubles matches with Gandini at the No. 3 doubles position and holds a 5-1 overall record.Â
Â
The Creighton men's tennis team returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9 when the Bluejays hosts Montana State at the Hanscom Tennis Courts with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m.Â
