OMAHA, Neb. -- Playing their first home match since Feb. 23, the Creighton men's tennis team soared out to a 7-0 sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday morning at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
With the win the Bluejays improved to 9-6 on the year, while the Prairie Wolves fell to 0-1 overall.
Creighton earned the double point with a quick 6-1 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Sophomore's Yuma Daijima and Kirtan Patel teamed up for a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 slot, moments before senior Zack Maline and junior Blake Eason captured a 6-1 triumph on the No. 3 doubles court to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead.
The Bluejays then tallied straight-set victories at all six singles positions to earn their second 7-0 sweep of the season. Senior Shin Inoue got Creighton started with a 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 4 singles court, while senior Matthew Lanahan posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at the top singles position to put the Jays up 3-0.
Junior Alejandro Gandini then clinched the overall dual for the Bluejays with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3 singles slot. Freshman Cowen Lau continued the Bluejays winning ways with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 singles position, capturing his second victory of the season.
With the match already in hand, Creighton used a 6-1, 6-2 win by sophomore Zachary Kuo to take a 6-0 lead, before junior Ethan Neil captured a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 singles slot to complete the 7-0 sweep for the Bluejays.
"It was a good effort by our team today," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "It was a good weekend to stay in a match rhythm for our upcoming BIG EAST matches in the next two weeks."
The Bluejays return to the courts on Friday, March 22 when they travel to Butler for a 2 p.m. match in Indianapolis.
