Baseball Sets Sights On Cardinal as Bluejays Face Stanford in Road Series

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming into the weekend at 15-3, Creighton Baseball faces its biggest test of the season over the weekend with a three-game road series at Stanford.

Scouting the Bluejays

While Creighton's pace at the plate has cooled over a seven-game homestand, the Bluejays enters the weekend hitting .321 as a team.

Canales Shines Against Familiar Foes
A second year transfer from Pacific, a member of the West Coast Conference, Colby Canales was dynamic against the San Francisco Dons and Omaha last week. Colby led Creighton to a 3-1 record with a .462 average, including two home runs and seven RBI.
He delivered at least one hit in each of the Bluejays' four games, going 6-for-13 with a .923 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. Canales ignited a five-run seventh with a pinch-hit single in the Bluejays' 8-7 win over Omaha on Tuesday. In Friday's 13-5 win over San Francisco he provided another critical hit, connecting for a grand slam during the fifth inning of a 2-2 contest. He sliced a two-run single in the first inning on Saturday, then gave Creighton a 4-3 lead in the Bluejays' 7-4 win over the Dons with a solo home run.
Saner Makes Debut Against Dons
Slated to be the Saturday starter after fall ball, Chad Saner's Creighton debut was delayed by an arm injury. The right handed hurler reclaimed his Saturday role with a scoreless frame against the Dons on March 16.
