
Shukla Earns BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Honors

OMAHA, Neb. – For the second time this season and the fifth time in her Creighton career, senior Malvika Shukla has been name BIG EAST Female Singles Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The recognition comes as Shukla posted a perfect 2-0 record at the No. 1 singles position, helping guide the Bluejays to its first win at BIG EAST rival Marquette last week.
Shukla erased a one-set deficit in her first match of the week to claim a 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 three-set victory over 2023 All-BIG EAST First Team honoree Emilija Kojcic, before defeating DePaul's Hannah Smith in a dramatic 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win on Saturday afternoon in the Windy City.
Along with posting a 2-0 record in singles play, Shukla and Valerie Negin also picked up a 6-4 victory over Marquette's Andie Weise and Lara Kaiser on Friday for their sixth straight doubles victory at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Over the course of her four-year Bluejay career, Shukla has recorded 118 career victories, ranking fifth all-time in program history for wins. She has also earned five BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week and four BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week awards, while earning All-BIG EAST First Team honors last season.
Shukla and the rest of the Bluejays return to action on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. when they begin a five-match homestand against Oral Roberts at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
