Bluejays show 24-stroke improvement on day two
HOLLISTER, Mo. -- The Creighton women's golf team placed 13th at the weather-shortened Ozarks National Invitational on Wednesday. Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the event was trimmed down to 36 holes after poor weather prevented play on Monday.
Eleanor Hudepohl and Katharine Marshall were Creighton's top two finishers. Both women shot an 83 in the opening round on Tuesday, then were separated by just a single shot on Wednesday. Hudepohl's 78 gave her a 161 total and tie for 43rd place, which put the junior just ahead of Marshall's closing 79 that tied her for 46th place.
Sophomore Annika Yturralde opened with an 84 before making a big improvement to fire an 80 in Wednesday's final round. She tied for 52nd place.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up were freshmen Annie Dawson (89-80=169) and Karsen Morrison (99-78=177). Dawson finished in 67th place, one spot ahead of Morrison.
Oral Roberts (303-286) won the event with a 13-over total of 589, holding off runner-up Middle Tennessee by 23 shots. ORU's Christina Riu (69-71=140) earned medalist honors, clearing the field by nine shots over teammate Kate Strickland (78-71=149) and Middle Tennessee's Ella Ives-Manley (79-70=149).
The event was held at Ozarks National Golf Course, a 5,971 yard layout that played to a Par of 72 Thirteen teams and 74 players competed in the event.
Creighton returns to action on April 8-9 with the Stampede at the Creek in Elkhorn, Neb.
