Bluejay Baseball Faces Villanova During Weekend Series

Omaha, Neb. -- Playing on the road for the fourth of five weekend series, Creighton Baseball faces Villanova in a three-game set. The Bluejays enter the weekend at 27-7, coming off a midweek win over rival Nebraska. The Wildcats, meanwhile, swept Seton Hall last weekend and are playing their best baseball of the season.

Series History: Creighton Leads Villanova, 25-2
After dropping the first meeting as BIG EAST foes in 2014, Creighton won 24 consecutive games against Villanova, but the Wildcats broke that streak in the series finale last season at Charles Schwab Field Omaha with an 8-6 win in ten innings.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 27-7, 3-3 BIG EAST)
Rebounding from the first series loss of the season, Creighton rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to best rival Nebraska 6-4 on Tuesday. At 27-7, the Bluejays have firmly placed themselves in the conversation for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .303, led individually by Nolan Sailors (.391), Nolan Clifford (.388) and Teddy Deters (.341). Two other Bluejays enter the weekend with an average over .300Â in Tate Gillen (.319) and Colby Canales (.317). Â
On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.61, with 308 strikeouts in 294.2 innings.
Scouting the Wildcats

The Wildcats enter the series with Creighton coming off a conference sweep of Seton Hall last weekend.
Villanova enters the week with an average of .238 as a team, led by Dylan Dennis (.321) and Jack O'Reilly (.300).
On the mound the Huskers have a team ERA of 6.27 with 198 strikeouts in 235.1 innings.
Deters Dramatic Slam Beats Nebraska
Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the ninth, Creighton's comeback began with a pair of two-strike singles from pinch hitter Matt Scherrman and Nolan Sailors. With one down Nolan Clifford worked a walk, then Teddy Deters launched his second home run of the game, a grand slam to center field.
Nebraska did not go quietly in the bottom of the frame as the Huskers inched within two at 6-4 and just missed knotting the game when Clay Bradford double hit the top of the wall for a double. Bluejay closer Mason Koch stranded two Huskers on the base paths with a strikeout to close the contest.
Deters' Blast was Bluejays' Fifth Grand Slam of 2024

Bluejays Collect 10th Win in Last 12 Games With Nebraska
Creighton continued to gain national respect by posting its tenth win in the last 12 games with the Huskers. Adding a 6-4 road win to the 5-3 victory the Bluejays claimed on April 2. The first win was also the first win over a ranked Nebraska squad since the Bluejays defeated #3 Nebraska 5-3 in 2005 (May 10, 2005).
Teddy Deters Pushes Hit Streak to 19
Bluejay right fielder Teddy Deters pushed his hit streak to 19 games with his two home run outing versus Nebraska on April 16. The last time he went without a hit came in the series opening game against San Francisco on March 15. Deters also has a 21-game reach base streak, taking over the top spot as Nolan Sailors' 30-game streak was snapped in the series finale at Xavier on Sunday, April 14.
