Bluejay Baseball Completes Season Sweep of Nebraska with 9-5 Win

Creighton Seizes Control with Six-Run First Inning
The win moved the Bluejays to 31-11 overall, while Nebraska fell to 27-15.
Coming to the plate for the first time, Creighton trailed 1-0. That deficit lasted exactly two pitches as Bluejay leadoff man Nolan Sailors smashed a home run over the right field wall, his seventh of the season. A dropped fly to left and a lost pop up on the infield gave Creighton runners at first and second. Two outs later the Bluejays delivered four consecutive RBI hits as Hogan Helligso laced an RBI single to left-center, Cuyler Zukowski connected on an RBI double down the right field line, Ben North laced a two-run single to center and Kyle Hess tripled down the right field line to make it 6-1.Â
Nebraska countered with a pair of solo home runs in the third from Clay Bradford and Rhett Stokes.
The Bluejays answered with a long ball of their own as Teddy Deters blasted a two-run home run to left, his ninth of the season. Deters' long ball pushed the Creighton lead to 8-3.
Each squad scratched the scoreboard in the seventh as Nebraska got RBI single from Tyler Stone and Cole Evans, while Creighton got a solo home run from Matt Scherrman. It was Scherrman's second of the season.
Five Bluejays collected a pair of hits, while North and Deters each finished with two RBI.
Creighton reliever Tommy Lamb earned the win to move to 5-0 this season, tossing two innings of scoreless relief. Nebraska starter Ty Horn took the loss (1-1) allowing six runs (one earned) on six hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Friday, May 3 as the Bluejays begin a three game road series at St. John's at 5:00 p.m.

The home run by Nolan Sailors was the first lead off home by Creighton at Charles Schwab Field Omaha ... Creighton moved to 11-0 in midweek games with the victory on Tuesday night ... The Bluejays earned just their third three-game sweep of Nebraska, also doing so in 2018 and 1993.
