Baseball Falls at Connecticut, 9-2

Storrs, Conn. -- Creighton Baseball suffered a 9-2 loss to Connecticut in the series opener on Friday, May 10.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 31-15 on the season and 4-11 in BIG EAST action, while Connecticut climbed to 28-20 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
Connecticut jumped out to a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first as Korey Morton launched a two-run blast over the left field wall.
Creighton answered with two runs on three hits in the third as Cuyler Zukowski reached on an infield single, Nolan Sailors followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners. Following a sacrifice fly from Matt Scherrman, Nolan Clifford laced an RBI single to right.
The Huskies answered with three runs in the fifth on a solo home run from Jake Studley and a two-run blast from Tyler Minick.
Connecticut added a run in the fifth and got a three run blast in the seventh from Maddux Dalena to push its lead to 9-2.
Sailors and Clifford led Creighton at the dish, each going 2-for-3.
Creighton starter Tommy Lamb took the loss (5-1) as he allowed five runs on eight hits over 3.1 frames. Connecticut starter Garrett Coe picked up the win (8-5), limiting the Bluejays to two runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks over 6.1 innings.
The Bluejays and Huskies will continue their series on Saturday, May 11 at 1:05 pm (CT).
