The loss moved the Bluejays to 31-16 on the season and 4-12 in BIG EAST contests, while Connecticut climbed to 29-20 overall and 14-3 in conference play.
Creighton got off to a fast start as the Bluejays seized a 2-0 lead in the opening frame behind a two-run double from Matt Scherrman. Nolan Sailors led off the game with a single to center, then Teddy Deters drew a one-out walk. With two down in the frame Scherrman laced a ball to the gap in right-center.
Held without a hit for the first two frames, Connecticut struck back with four runs in the third. Matt Garbowski and Tyler Minick singles, then Caleb Shpur lines an RBI double to left-center. Luke Broadhurst followed with a three-run shot to center, putting Connecticut up 4-2.
Helligso answered immediately with a solo shot to left-center to make it a 4-3 contest.
Garbowski and Minick responded with a two-run double from Garbowski and an RBI single to center by Minick to bring the Husky edge to 8-3.
Pinch-hitting with two down in the sixth, Torosian lined his first career home run over the left field wall, driving in Kyle Hess. The Bluejay second baseman had reached with his third double of the game.
Minick added a two-run blast in the eighth, giving him four hits (4-for-4) with two runs scored and three RBI.
Bluejay starter Chad Saner took the loss (1-2) allowing six runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batter in 3.1 innings, while Connecticut starter Stephen Quigley picked up the win (4-3). Quigley limited the Bluejays to five runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings.
Tate Gillen led Creighton's offense with four hits (4-for-5), just missing a solo home run in the ninth.
The Bluejays and Huskies wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, May 12 with a scheduled 11:35 am (CT) start time.
