Men’s Tennis Matches Best Start Since 1991-92 with 6-1 Win Over Nebraska Kearney

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match and matched its best start to a season since 1991-92 (6-1) following a 6-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday night at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
The Bluejays improved to 7-1 on the season, while the Lopers fell to 3-6 overall.
Creighton soared out to a 1-0 lead, securing the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions. Alejandro Gandini and Yuma Daijima got things started with a 6-2 win on the No. 2 doubles court, while Zachary Kuo and Kirtan Patel clinched the first point of the match with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles position. Rocky McKenzie and Ethan Neil also captured a 6-4 win at the top doubles spot.
In singles play, Patel rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 straight-sets triumph on the No. 4 court, while Neil gave Creighton a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 6 singles position.
Gandini then clinched the overall dual with a 7-6 (6-4), 6-2 win at the top singles position to secure the Bluejays fifth straight win. McKenzie followed with a 7-5, 7-5 win on the No. 5 singles court, before Kuo battled back from a one set deficit to earn a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 victory.
The Lopers lone point of the match came on the No. 2 court as Jip Mens clipped Daijima with a 7-6 (6-4), 5-7, 10-6 three-set win.
Creighton continues their homestand on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they open up BIG EAST play against St. John's at 2 p.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
