Bluejays not Blue Jays:
Creighton's mascot is the Bluejays or Bluejay, one word. Conversely the MLB Toronto team is the Blue Jays.
Scouting the Bluejays
(2025: 0-0, 0-0 BIG EAST)
The 2024 Bluejays were a dichotomy as Creighton went 28-4 in non-conference play, including an undefeated 12-0 in midweek games going 2-0 against #13 Coastal Carolina.
Conversely Creighton went 7-13 in BIG EAST play, causing the Bluejays to miss the BIG EAST Tournament for the second consecutive season and third time program history last season.
Most of a potent Bluejay offense that hit .289 as a team returns this season, including All-BIG EAST Second Teamers Nolan Sailors and Kyle Hess. The duo hit .355 and .302 last season to lead Creighton.
Creighton also welcomes back starters Eli Nissen, Dominic Cancellieri, Shea Wendt and Jimmy Burke from last season.
Scouting the Spartans
(2025: 0-0, 0-0 SoCon)
After closing the 2024 season at 33-21, UNC Greensboro was picked to win the Southern Conference (SoCon) preseason poll.
Senior Rob Ready was named SoCon Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while six Spartans named to either the All-SoCon First or Second Team. He was accompanied by three other Spartans on the first team, including Grant Aycock (RP), Luke Holland (OF) and Trey Truitt (DH). Hunter Shuey and Danny Thompson Jr. rounded out the preseason accolades for UNCG on the All-SoCon Second Team at starting pitcher and relief pitcher, respectively.
UNCG collected three first-place votes and 40 points to finish on top of the SoCon's Preseason Poll. Samford was a close second, receiving three-place votes and 38 points. The Spartans are coming off a 33-21 season that saw a 15-6 finish in league play to earn the SoCon Regular Season Championship. UNCG led the SoCon a season ago in ERA (5.19), fewest runs allowed (297) and lowest opponent batting average (.267).
