The win brings the Bluejays to 17-7 on the season, while Nebraska dropped to 12-16 overall.Â
Knotted at 4-4 entering the seventh inning, Creighton took the lead for good thanks to Kyle Hess's two-run single. Will MacLean drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, in front of the first double of the season by Connor Capece to set the table for Kyle Hess. The New Jersey native responded with a two-run single to brake a 4-4 tie.
After Nebraska answered with a run in the bottom of the eight, the Bluejays salted the game away with three more runs in the top of the ninth.
Early in the contest Creighton bounced out to a 3-0 edge by taking advantage of the wildness of Husker starter TJ Coats. The Bluejays benefited from three walks and a hit batter in the frame to go with a leadoff double from Tate Gillen and an RBI single from Capece.
Nebraska answered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the second, ignited by former Bluejay Hogan Helligso. The Husker catcher ended Creighton starter Ian Koosman's 15-inning scoreless streak with an RBI single to center. Later in the frame Riley Silva lined a two-run single to right-center tying the game at 3-3.
After a scoreless third inning, Nolan Sailors put Creighton back in front by pushing a single up the middle in the top of the fourth to bring Tate Gillen home for his second run of the day.Â
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Nebraska's pinch hitter, Gabe Swanson pushed a double into left to bring in Cayden Brumbaugh to even out the score at 4-4.Â
With Creighton leading 6-4 in the eighth, the Huskers battled back with a run on an RBI double from Cael Frost. Bluejay closer Garrett Langrell, however, limited the damage to one run with a strikeout and a fly out.
Jack Torosian secured the win for the Bluejays with a two-run triple that soared out to right field. Ben North's RBI single put the Bluejays up 9-5.
Jimmy Burke picked up the win (2-1) tossing two innings of scoreless relief, while Langrell earned his sixth save recording the final five outs of the game. Nebraska reliever Collin Nowaczyk suffered the loss (0-1), allowing two runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out in the seventh.
Creighton will begin BIG EAST play at home this Friday against Connecticut at 6 p.m.
