Manchester takes fourth in 800 at Kip Janvrin Open
DES MOINES and INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Creighton Track teams wrapped up a busy weekend on Saturday as Jacob Ludwick competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, while nine other men and women were active on Friday at the Kip Janvrin Open in nearby Indianola.
"Overall, it was a weekend that had some great performances," said head coach Chris Gannon. "Jake and Logan with school records, in the 1500 and 400 hurdles. We didn't have great conditions on Friday and it is a tough bounce-back for the athletes that doubled but great prep for BIG EAST."
Carly Manchester owned CU's top performance on Friday, finishing fourth in the 800 in 2:14.70. She was one of four Bluejays in the 800, joining Anika Nettekoven (2:18.12), Katie Roche (2:19.80) and Sophia Valentine (2:23.51). Valentine also competed in the javelin, placing 17th with a distance of 24.51 meters (80'5").
Also competing twice on Friday at the Kip Janvrin Open was sprinter Natalee Gehred. The sophomore was 14th in the 400 (1:01.74) and 20th in the 200 (26.87).
Indianola native Logan Piper competed in a pair of events in his hometown on Friday, placing fifth in the 400 high hurdles (54.79) and 15th in the 200-meter dash (22.42). Both times were personal records, with his time in the hurdles a full second better than his previous best.
Ryan Hendrickson (1:54.08) and Jake Ziebarth (1:56.27) also raced in the 800, finishing sixth and 20th, respectively.
Creighton's lone participant at the Drake Relays on Saturday was senior Jacob Ludwick. He took eighth place in the javelin with a throw of 54.51 meters (178'10").
"An eighth-place finish for Jake in the championship javelin is something we can build on," added Gannon.
The Bluejays return to the track next Saturday when they compete in Iowa City, Iowa, at the Musco Twilight.
