Seven-Run Seven Propels Baseball Past Wildcats, 9-4

Villanova took advantage of two hit batters, a throwing error and all three of its hits in the game during the fourth as the Wildcats stormed out to a 4-0 lead on two-run singles from Austin Lemon and John Freitag.
Creighton answered with seven runs on six hits and a Villanova error in the seventh. The Bluejays set the table with a single from Teddy Deters, a double down the left field line from Chris Baillargeon and a walk to Rocco Gump. Nick Venteicher laced a two-run single off the glove of Wildcat first baseman Collin Quintaro to make it 4-2. Consecutive RBI singles by Nate McHugh and Ben North tied the game at four, then a walk to Isaac Wachsman filled the bases once more. Connor Capece reached on a ground ball to short that was thrown wide of second, allowing two Bluejay runs to cross. Finally Deters laced an RBI single through the right side.
In the top of the ninth, Baillargeon accounted for the final two tallies with a two-run home run to right-center.
Bluejay starter Jack Pineau collected the win (5-1), limiting Villanova to four runs on three hits and four hit batters over six innings. Reliever Eli Nissen picked up his first career save with three innings of flawless relief. Villanova reliever Will Parkinson took the loss (2-5), allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.
The two teams wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 10:30 am (CT) on Saturday, April 18. The doubleheader is necessary out of weather concerns for Sunday.
