Scouting Creighton (25-16, 10-2 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays are on a seven-game win streak with a home game followed by a road series at St. John's on the horizon.Â
The streak began after losing the away series to Connecticut at the beginning of April. Since then, the Bluejays have outscored each of their next three conference opponents by 17 or more runs over three games and won by five or more runs in 10 of their last 12 games.Â
The Bluejay offense records a .282 batting average this season, bolstered by high-powered generation from Ben North and Nate McHugh.Â
North's batting average of .327 sets the pace for the roster, strengthened by 36 RBI and a team-high home run statistic, tied with Isaac Wachsmann at eight. McHugh (.326) also sets the Bluejays' offensive tempo, tallying a team-high 56 hits that have yielded seven home runs. Catcher Connor Capece rounds out Creighton's offense, topping the squad with 40 RBI.
On the mound, veteran pitcher Jack Pinau leads the Bluejay strikers with a 6-1 record in 11 starts. He has a team-high 64 strikeouts in 60 innings. The return of Wilson Magers to the Bluejay rotation has also achieved results in his four starts, as the sophomore right hander has managed 17 strikeouts in 17 innings of work.
Scouting North Dakota State (8-26, 5-10 BIG EAST)
The Bison improved to eight wins on the season with two bookended victories in a four games series with Oral Roberts. An 11-3 victory to top off the series with the Golden Eagles served as the Bison's highest-margin win of the season, with five runs in the fourth bolstering the result.Â
This season, North Dakota State's offense racked up a .215 batting average. Outfielder Kyle Law serves as the hitting power of the Bison offense, holding a team-high .339 batting average and .990 OPS in 20 appearances at the plate.Â
Fellow outfielder Colton Becker (.242) steadies Law's hitting power with a tied team-high seven home runs and roster-leading 20 RBI.Â
Appearing on the mound nine times this season, starter Jonah Walker pitched a 4.12 ERA in 39.1 innings of work, striking out 29 batters. Pitcher Braden Gluth is the Bison's primary pick at the relief position, posting a 2.95 ERA in 12 appearances and striking out 15Â in 18.1 frames.
Scouting St. John's (23-20, 9-3 BIG EAST)
An away series for the Red Storm saw St. John's win the series but drop the final game. After pulling away from the Musketeers with a 12-7 victory and narrow 8-6 win in 11 innings, the Red Storm lost the final game 16-6, giving up two six-run innings in the second and fifth to allow Xavier to run away with the game.
Now, a midweek battle with Hofstra buffers the upcoming home series with the Bluejays, and the Red Storm carry a collective .271 batting average into the weekend conference matchup.
Â
Shaun McMillan leads the change for the Red Storm this season, recording a team-best .326 batting average in 43 starts. Balancing McMillan's consistent attack is Adam Agresti (.313), the resident home run hitter for St. John's and RBi leader. Agresti has connected for 15 homers this season and drove in 41 runners.
At the bump, Liam O'Leary (3.00) and Evan Chafee (5.00) have each started 11 games this season. O'Leary holds an 3.00 ERA in 72 innings pitched, recording 43 strikeouts this season, while Chafee controls the strikeout count with a team-high 48 for the Red Storm.
Jack Pineau Claims Second BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week in 2026, Deters Earns Spot on Honor Roll
Creighton ace Jack Pineau earned his second BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor, tossing six scoreless innings in Creighton's 6-0 win over Butler on Friday. The award was announced on Monday, April 27. Bluejay outfielder Teddy Deters was also recognized with a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.Â
Pineau delivered six shutout innings in the opening game of the series with Butler on Friday, notching eight strikeouts. He scattered six hits, one walk and one hit batter to move to 6-1 on the season. Pineau needed just 92 pitches as he faced 25 hitters in the outing.
Deters led Creighton to a 4-0 week with a team high seven RBI. The Minnesota native hit .462 (6-for-13) with three additional free passes (one walk and two hit-by-pitches). Deters posted a 1.077 slugging percentage during the four games, connecting on two home runs and two doubles. He also scored five runs and posted a .500 on-base percentage.
Rice Making his Home Runs Count, Becomes First Player with two Walk Off Blasts at Charles Schwab Field Omaha
Since opening in 2011, 679 games have been played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. That figure includes every NCAA Division I contests, including Creighton games, conference tournaments (BIG EAST, Big Ten and MVC) as well as the College World Series.Â
During those contests there have been eight walkoff home runs in park history, with Lew Rice becoming the first player withÂ
multiple walk-off home runs. Rice ended the Bluejays' 16-4 (7)Â win over North Dakota State on April 8 and Creighton's 6-5 win over Butler on April 25.
Historically 11 is BIG EAST Magic Number
Since Creighton joined the BIG EAST in 2014, just three teams with double digit victories in conference play have missed the BIG EAST Tournament.Â
St. John's missed the postseason with a 10-16 mark (.385) in 2021, Creighton missed the mark last year at 10-11 in 2023 and Seton Hall stayed home at 10-11 in 2025.
