Gerhard Posch begins his second season as head coach of the Creighton Men's Tennis team in 2024-25.

Hired on August 22, 2023, Posch guided the Bluejays to a 13-9 overall record in his first season at the helm. Under his guidance, Matthew Lanahan and Alejandro Gandini became the first Bluejays in program history to qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships, while also becoming the first duo in school history to receive an ITA National Ranking. Gandini landed a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team after posting a team-best 27 combined single and doubles wins.

Creighton also continued to achieve in the classroom in 2023-24, as it was recognized by the NCAA for having a perfect Multi-Year APR score, while both Lanahan and Zachary Kuo picked up Academic All-District accolades from College Sports Communicators and seven Bluejays claimed ITA Scholar-Athlete awards.

Gerhard came to Creighton from the Nebraska Tennis Academy in Omaha, where he was as one of the top developmental coaches and helped numerous nationally-ranked players earn collegiate scholarships for more than 10 years. He has also garnered experience as a touring coach on the WTA Tour.

“Gerhard is a really talented and respected tennis instructor,” said Blossom. “As a former student-athlete himself, he understands the value of an impactful and well-rounded student-athlete experience. I look forward to working with Gerhard as we strive to advance the men’s tennis program.”

Posch started the Nebraska Tennis Academy in Omaha six years ago and remains a head coach within the organization. Since the academy’s inception, his players have won multiple Player of the Year accolades from the Nebraska and Omaha tennis associations, reached the top-10 in the national and Missouri Valley singles and doubles rankings, and competed in one of the most prestigious youth clay court tournaments in Europe.

In an effort to build a training center for aspiring collegiate tennis players from Nebraska, Posch serves a managerial role at Skyline Woods Tennis Club in the Omaha suburb of Elkhorn. Skyline Woods hosts the Nebraska Tennis Academy and Posch currently assists in the planning phase of a rejuvenation project that features tennis, pickleball and golf amenities.

Tom Lilly's leadership has set Creighton tennis on a path of success, and I look forward to optimizing our student-athlete experience through more individualized coaching.”

Prior to founding the Nebraska Tennis Academy, Posch worked as an assistant teaching professional at Happy Hollow Club and director of tennis at Nebraska Elite Tennis in Omaha.

A 41-year-old native of Perchtoldsdorf, Austria, Posch earned a Master’s degree in English literature from Creighton in 2010 while attending on a Presidential Scholarship.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2007 after a standout playing career that saw him serve as a team captain for the Cornhuskers. He was a member of the Big 12 All-Conference Doubles team as a senior, when he recorded a signature win over Texas A&M and posted eight doubles victories with partner Mark Tate. Posch led the Huskers at No.1 singles for a period of three years, in which the Big Red notched two of its biggest wins in program history versus then-No. 16 Rice and No. 23 Florida State. The Huskers climbed as high as No. 48 in the ITA national team rankings during his senior campaign. Posch was also named to the 2006 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Posch led NU with nine singles and seven doubles victories as a sophomore, and also added 10 singles wins and five doubles victories his junior campaign.

During his freshman season at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Ga.), Posch was named a Second Team All-American in doubles after helping ABAC to a runner-up finish at the 2003 NJCAA National Championships.

Before his collegiate career, the Austria native reached the finals of the ITF Group 3 tournament in Luxembourg and peaked at No.136 in singles and No.133 in doubles in the ITF World Junior Rankings in 2001.

He and his wife, Amber, have three children: Lucy, Henry and Helena.

Posch replaced longtime head coach Tom Lilly, who stepped down from his role after 27 years in June of 2023 to focus solely on serving as head coach for Creighton’s women’s tennis program.
