
Jays Blank Grambling State 3-0 in Women's Soccer

OMAHA, Neb.- The Creighton women's soccer team erupted for three goals on Friday in a 3-0 victory over Grambling State at Morrison Stadium in the second match of the Bluejay Classic. The three goals were the most scored in a game this season by the Jays.
Creighton improved to 5-4-1 on the season with the win while Grambling State was saddled with its fifth loss in six matches.
The Jays scored first just three minutes into the match on a chip shot from five yards out by Heather Duncan. It was Duncan's first career goal and served as the game-winner. The Jays continued with the pressure and in the 32nd minute Creighton goal leader Toch Ihemelu scored her fourth of the season. The four goals that Ihemelu has scored this year equals her season total from a year ago. The goal gave the Jays the 2-0 lead going in to half time.
The second half was more of the same for Creighton, pressure defense and attacking the goal. The Jays played most of the second half on offense, getting off 34 shots compared to Grambling's seven.
Marcy Gans scored the last goal of the night on a chip shot that floated just over the out stretched hands of Grambling State goalkeeper Sherrice Fox. It was Gans second goal of the season.
CU goalkeeper Kristen Casey (3-3-1) earned the win, she had two saves on the night. GSU's Fox had six saves on the evening against a bombardment of shots from the Jays.
In the earlier match in the Bluejay Classic, UNLV defeated North Dakota State 1-0. NDSU will take on Grambling State Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The Jays will play UNLV on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Morrison Stadium to decide the winner of the Bluejay Classic.
