CONWAY, Ark. - Former junior college All-American Amanda Hess struck out 15 in her Creighton debut Saturday afternoon, helping the Bluejays past Central Arkansas, 8-1 at the UCA Spring Clash. After a combined no-hitter in CU's season-opening 17-0 win over Alabama A&M, the Bluejay arms continued their dominance in the Jays' second of three games on opening day.
The Bluejay (2-0) bats exploded in the second inning, plating seven of their eight runs in the frame.
Senior Jamie Reiss went 3-for-4 with two RBI and sophomore Bailey Dawson crushed a home run, had four RBI and finished 2-for-4 at the plate. TJ Eadus and Lau Emmsley-Chang each had a pair of hits for the second straight game.
Hess went the distance to pick up her first Division I victory since pitching at Northern Iowa in 2005. The right-hander set a school record with 277 strikeouts at Mesa Community College last year, and returned to DI ball with 15 Ks. She allowed five hits and walked none in her Bluejay debut.
