Softball Tops UCA, 5-0; Off to Best Start Since 1987

CONWAY, Ark. Creighton improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1987 with a 5-0 victory over Central Arkansas at the UCA Spring Clash Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the Bluejays the tournament championship and kept them perfect through five games for the first time in 20 years.
Jessica Wakasugi scored the first run of the game on a passed ball in the first inning. The Jays then scored three more in the second. It was a Wakasugi single that plated the second run of the contest. She, along with Michelle Koch, would later come around to score on a two-run single by TJ Eadus to put CU up 4-0 over the host school after two innings.
A solo home run off the bat of Jessica German proved the Jays' fifth run in the third inning. The homer was German's first of the season.
While the CU bats were warm, the Bluejay arms were keeping UCA's (5-5) cold. Freshman Tara Oltman picked up her third win of the year, pitching four innings of one-hit ball. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in the win. Junior college transfer Amanda Hess pitched the final three innings to earn the save. Hess surrendered only one hit, striking out four and walking one.
Wakasugi finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jamie Reiss went 2-for-4 as the only other CU with multiple hits in the game.
Shortstop Bailey Dawson had five extra base hits and 10 RBI, while hitting .444. Sophomore outfielders Wakasugi (.467, 11 runs) and Lau Emmsley-Chang (.455) also made the team.
The Bluejays will put their perfect record on the line when they participate in the Holiday Inn Select Tulsa Festival next weekend in
