A six run outburst in the third inning proved to be all the offense in the game, as Amanda Hess shut down the EIU (4-5) bats.
Lau Emmsley-Chang led off the third inning with a single and Michelle Koch followed by reaching base on a fielder's choice as she was attempting to sacrifice the runner to second. Emmsley-Chang ended up on third base due to a throwing error on the play. After Jessica Wakasugi was retired, senior Jamie Reiss ripped her first career triple to drive in the first two runs of the game. Bailey Dawson followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Reiss with the third run.
With the bases empty and two outs, the Jays started over. TJ Eadus walked, followed by Jessica German reaching on an error and a walk to Hess to load the bases. Freshman Michelle Graner then cleared the bases with one swing of the bat, driving in all three runs on a double to left center.
Hess earned the victory, pitching a complete game shutout. The right-hander allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out nine to move to 2-1 on the year.
The Jays managed six hits in the game, led by Emmsley-Chang's 2-for-2 performance.
The win marked the second-straight Saturday the Bluejays defeated EIU by a 6-0 score.
