EVANSVILLE, Ind. Evansville hit three home runs as the Purple Aces earned a 7-3 victory over the Creighton softball team in game two of a Good Friday doubleheader at Cooper Stadium. Three of UE's first five hits cleared the fence as the Bluejay loss dropped CU to 27-8 overall and 9-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference after the Jays took game one 5-4.
The Bluejays scored first in the night cap, as Jamie Reiss scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. The Purple Aces (21-13, 5-8 MVC) equaled the Jays' first inning run with consecutive two out hits.
Bailey Dawson hit her sixth home run of the year with one out in the third inning. Her solo shot put CU up 2-1 and moved her team-leading RBI total to 32. Jessica Waksugi added an RBI single in the fourth inning and the Jays led 3-1. UE's Krista Price and Laura Rather hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the ball game.
The Aces took their first lead of the game when Cassey Kemna hit a two run home run in the fifth inning. UE tacked on two more runs in the sixth on a two run single by pitcher Jacki Bradley.
The Bluejays out-hit the Ace, 9-8, but also stranded nine runners on base in the loss. Amanda Hess (9-4) took the loss for CU. She tossed 5.1 innings, allowed seven hits, six earned runs and struck out five. Tara Oltman pitched two-thirds of an inning to finish the game for CU in the circle as she has appeared in all 11 of CU's MVC games this spring.
Bradley (6-4) picked up the complete game victory after taking the loss in relief in the first game. The left-hander surrendered nine hits, just one earned run, walked none and struck out two.
TJ Eadus went 2-for-4 in the game, while Wakasugi finished 2-for-2 with an RBI in game two.
The Bluejays and Purple Aces are scheduled to finish the three game series on Saturday at noon, weather permitting.
