Dawson Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam in Softball Season-Opener

DENTON, Texas - Bailey Dawson smashed a walk-off grand slam to give the Creighton softball team a 4-0 win over Texas State in the Bluejays' season-opener at the North Texas Invitational Saturday.
Creighton left two runners on base in both the third and fourth innings and went into the bottom of the seventh with the game still scoreless. With one out, sophomore transfer Jessi Jadlowski collected a pinch hit in her first at bat as a Bluejay. Michelle Koch followed with a walk and after freshman Liz McKewon fanned, pinch-hitter Laura Kratochvil drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Dawson then stepped to the plate and connected on her first collegiate grand slam to send the Bluejays home with a 4-0 victory over the Bobcats.
Sophomore hurler Tara Oltman was the beneficiary of Dawson's long ball, as the right-hander picked up her first win and shutout of the season. Oltman went all seven innings, allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out six.
