ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Creighton University men's golfer Austin Miller has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week. This is the first career league honor for the junior from Gering, Neb., and Miller joins Bluejay teammate Kevin Stanek as MVC Golfers of the Week this fall.
Miller finished
in a tie for second (of 73 entrants) at the Fairway Club Invitational on Tuesday in
Lincoln, Neb., leading the Creighton men's golf team to a seventh-place
finish. He was only one stroke behind individual champion Mike Coatman
from Nebraska.
The two-day event, hosted by the University of Nebraska, was conducted on the 7,158-yard, par-72 Arbor Links Golf Course. Originally planned for three rounds, it was shortened to only two after the second round was suspended Monday evening due to repeated weather delays.
Miller followed a first-round, even-par 72 with a 2-under 70 in the final round for a 142 total. He now has five rounds of par or better in his career, though these were his first two since 2008-09.
The Jays are back in action Sep. 20-21 at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
