OMAHA, Neb. - On a windy Spring day in Omaha, the Creighton women's tennis team picked up their sixth straight victory, improving to 10-5 on the season. The Jays defeated Bradley 6-1 on Sunday to pick up their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season, improving to 1-1 in the conference.
"Our girls played really hard all weekend despite some sickness throughout the week," said head coach Tom Lilly. "I am very impressed with all our effort on the weekend, as you could tell the girls really, really wanted to get these wins this weekend."
Creighton started off the day winning all three doubles matches. Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder took the No. 1 singles, defeating Nicole Miller and Adele Henke 8-3. In the No. 2 doubles, Kelsey Schmidt and Mary McMullan defeated Sarah Rodefeld and Meredith McDonagh 8-2. Sisters Sarah Cadwallader and Leesa Cadwallader shut out their opponents in the No. 3 doubles, dropping Ashley Roth and Brigitte Graf 8-0.
The Jays continued their dominance in the singles play, with just two matches going to three sets. Creighton started off with Sarah Cadwallader defeating Graf 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles. McMullan then defeated McDonagh 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles. With a similar score, Schmidt defeated Henke 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles, giving Creighton the 4-0 lead and the automatic win.
Finishing fourth in singles was Lauren Mastro, who defeated Roth 6-4, 6-3. The No. 1 and No. 2 singles were the only two to go to three sets, with Creighton and Bradley each taking a point. Snyder defeated Rodefeld 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 to earn the point at No. 2 singles, while Bradley's Nicole Miller defeated Kirshenbaum 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, only playing the first to 10 in the third since the match was already decided.
