PEORIA, Ill. - Creighton softball had to settle for a road Missouri Valley Conference series win instead of a sweep on Sunday, as Bradley prevented the three-game sweep with a 7-4 win at Laura Bradley Park. A four run first inning chased Bluejay starter Becca Changstrom and the Braves finished off the win by adding three more runs against Bluejay relievers.
Creighton (11-11, 2-1 MVC) scored the first run of the game, as Ellen Homan led off the game with a single and would score on a bases loaded sacrifice fly off the bat of Bri Lingl to put the Bluejays ahead 1-0.
Bradley (11-14, 1-2 MVC) would respond with five hits and four runs off of Changstrom in the bottom of the frame. The Bluejay sophomore recorded just one out before being lifted after allowing four consecutive one-out base hits to put the Braves ahead 4-1.
The Jays got a run back in the second inning when Homan delivered an RBI triple to score Ashley Frutos who had led off the frame with a single.
The Braves regained their three-run lead by plating an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning.
Creighton threatened to cut into the 5-2 Bradley lead in the fifth with back-to-back one-out singles from Liz Dike and Christa Ruf to turn the lineup over, but Homan and Allie Mathewson were retired without pushing a run across.
Bradley built its lead to 7-2, before Mathewson added an RBI double in the sixth inning and Alexis Cantu crushed her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the seventh, a solo shot to conclude scoring and put the final score at 7-4.
After playing their first 22 games away from Omaha, the Bluejays are scheduled to play their home opener this Wednesday against Iowa State. The Jays and Cyclones will play a doubleheader starting at 4 pm at the renovated Creighton Sports Complex.
